The reasons to not like bed bugs are too numerous to list. The most important reason - they bite! Bed Bugs live by feeding off the blood of humans and other warm-blooded hosts. And these bites will cause raised red bumps and welts, and can cause a burning sensation and itching.

Size: Bed bugs are about 4 - 5 mm in length and 2.5 mm in width.
Color: Nymphs are light brown and continue to grow darker brown.
Characteristics: Bed bugs are tiny (4 - 5 mm in length) and have a reddish-brown color. Their shape is oval, they are wingless and have microscopic hairs.
Geographic Range: Found throughout the world in tropical climates, bed bugs in the United States are found predominantly in New York City, the mid-atlantic region and mid-west. Due to mass travel, though, bed bugs can spread to any temperate climate with high denisty occupancy.
Food: Bed bugs live by hemotophagy - the feeding off the blood of humans and warm-blooded animals.
Biology: Bed bugs reproduce fast and furiously. From one female, 5 eggs can be laid and hatched within 2 weeks. And the female can lay up to 500 eggs in a lifetime. The math can be scary.

  • Keep all pets on flea/tick preventative
  • Check clothing and exposed body parts for ticks after hiking or spending time in tall grass.
