A Full Belly This Holiday Season

When Western says they put people first, they really mean it. When a customer of the Wilmington branch, the Ministry of Caring, opened a food pantry, they were in desperate need of canned goods and nonperishable items to help feed their community. So, the whole Western team came together this holiday season to fill it up! The Ministry of Caring is a vibrant community of staff, volunteers, donors, and diverse supporters united by a passion to serve the poor. As a company that puts people first, that sentiment resonates with our employees and Western Pest Services as a whole. So, helping the Ministry of Caring this holiday season was a natural fit.

The Ministry of Caring’s efforts have grown into many programs in and near Wilmington, the largest city in Delaware that chronically endures its deepest concentration of homelessness, unemployment, food insecurity, and overall poverty that disproportionately affects residents of color, especially children and seniors. With a branch right in Wilmington that services the Ministry of Caring, Western Pest Services and its employees have a special place in their heart for this community. But at the end of the day, EVERY branch donated to the cause. Their efforts (and bags of food) helped the ministry provide nutritious breakfast and midday meals for the hungry at their Emmanuel Dining Room. Meals there are provided with no questions asked – especially around the holidays. And the employees were more than happy to donate to it.

We asked Wilmington Branch Manager, Gary Cohen, about the whole company coming together this holiday season and he said, “We were proud to donate more than 6 large boxes that contained more than 200 lbs. of canned and dry goods that were used all throughout the holiday season to feed families in need every day.” Two hundred pounds! That’s a lot of food for a lot of people in need.

Commercial Account Executive, Christian Delgado, made the trek to the Ministry to drop off the 200 lbs. of food. He’s seen smiling ear to ear with Jamar Freeland who runs the food donation program at the Ministry of Caring. The boxes and bags of food that many of us take for granted are appropriately under the Christmas tree in the picture. A small gift of nutritious and delicious food can mean so much to those in need.

When Western refers to putting people first, it doesn’t just apply to our employees. Of course, our customers are also “our people” but you don’t have to be a customer to get first class service from Western. Anyone who lives or works near or around our branches is part of the Western family, and therefore gets treated as such! Western looks forward to continuing the tradition of food drives, toy drives, and just about any other way to help our communities in need.
