Q: What’s your name?
A: Tess Mattiace
Q: And what is your official title at Western Pest Services?
A: Western Canine and Pete’s main dog (and best friend)
Q: What are your responsibilities?
A: I search for bed bugs for Western Pest Services using my top-notch training and naturally sensitive sniffer. I search homes, apartments, hospital, offices… sometimes as many as 150 in one day! I also take tests and do demonstrations. I’m awesome like that.
Q: What year did you start working at Western?
A: 2015
Q: How many years have you been working in this industry?
A: I’ve been working like a dog for almost 5 years now.
Q: What relevant positions did you hold before Western?
A: Inmate at an animal shelter – I don’t want to talk about it.
Q: What’s your education background?
A: I was educated by my dad in Vernon as a bed bug detective.
Q: Do you have any relevant certifications or specialties?
A: Certified with both Joe Nick K-9 and Anderson K-9 Training.
Q: Have you received any relevant awards?
A: Just the occasional treats.
Q: Are there any interesting projects you’ve worked on that you’d like to include?
A: I was part of the ringing of the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange 2016
Q: Is there anything else you would like to include?
A: I was in a kill shelter before working for Western. Now I help people find bed bugs or give them the peace of mind that there are no signs of them. My dad says while working at hospitals, I also cheer up the sick people. He also said I can always put a smile on people’s faces when I do a demonstration and that I amaze people with my skills – often described as impressive. I just think I’m a very good girl.
