All About Williamstown, NJ

Williamstown is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located in Monroe Township in Gloucester County. Before the community’s settlement in 1737, Williamstown was inhabited by the Lenni-Lenape tribe of Native Americans, from whom the town derived its original name, “Squankum.” The name (Lenape for ‘place where evil spirits dwell’) was changed to Williamstown when the town’s first post office was established, due to postal regulations that prohibited two towns from having the same name and there was an older Squankum located 60 miles northeast. It is generally thought that ‘evil spirits’ referred to the abundance of mosquitoes in the area, a by-product of the low-lying swamps that characterized the area during that time period. Sounds like they could have benefited from our mosquito treatments. In the early eighteenth century, Richard Penn sold what eventually became Williamstown to his grandson, John Williams, who divided and resold the land in lots to settlers and for whom the town was eventually renamed. The town was officially incorporated as Monroe Township in March 1859, with Williamstown as a meeting place to vote and have town discussions. A municipal court was established in the Township of Monroe, in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 264 of the Laws of 1948. The first school was built in 1750 and stood where the Washington Hotel now stands. The local schools operated on a pay-as-you-go basis until the 1850s and were predominantly church-run. The area built its first high school in 1958.

Williamstown is home to a host of natural and rural attractions. Have some family fun at the Jersey Devil Golf and Fun Center. First read up on the history of the Jersey Devil itself. It’s a Jersey legend! Take a walk around and get authentic Pennsylvania Dutch items like pretzels and homemade pies at the Williamstown Farmers Market. After all that, indulge in a bananas foster martini and lump crab stuffed salmon at Library IV. Frankly, you could order anything there and be happy. Every year, people flock to Williamstown to enjoy everything it has to offer, but unfortunately, so do pests. While these bugs and rodents provide benefits to the eco-system in Williamstown, they can also be a serious problem at homes and businesses. That’s when a professional pest control expert should be called in.

Pest Control Services Near You

Properly controlling pests in Williamstown, NJ should be done on a local level. Williamstown’s pest issues are different than Cape May’s and way different than New York City’s. The pest control company you choose should have knowledge and expertise in your town. That’s Western Pest Services. We have been servicing New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, and Pennsylvania for almost 100 years. That kind of expertise is unmatched in the industry. As the Garden State, New Jersey is known for its forests, farms, trails, and abundance of greenery and lush vegetation. Williamstown is no exception. Warm, moist summers give way to cold winters, which means over-wintering insects, rodents, and other small wildlife need to find warm places to wait out the cold. The local extermination experts at our Maple Shade, NJ branch are used to dealing with mice, carpenter ants, bed bugs, termites, mosquitoes, ticks – and even the occasional cheeky raccoon or hiding bat. No matter the season, your pest control service needs will be taken care of by a local exterminator that knows the area and the pests that are common to it. In the summer, they know what that the ponds and birdbaths many people have around their homes can be exactly where mosquitoes like to breed. They know that the ticks that come out during the summer months can transmit Lyme disease so while nobody can help the wooded areas around Owens Park, they can help your backyard stay free from them. In the cooler months, they know mice can try to make their way into your garage – especially if that’s where you keep the 20 lb. dog food bag! No matter what pest, any time of the year, our pest control treatments in Williamstown can help, including:
