All About Amityville, NY

Amityville is a village near the Town of Babylon in Suffolk County, on the South Shore of Long Island. Huntington settlers first visited the Amityville area in 1653 due to its location to a source of salt hay for use as animal fodder. Chief Wyandanch granted the first deed of land in Amityville in 1658. The area was originally called Huntington West Neck South since it’s on the Great South Bay and Suffolk County, New York border in the southwest corner of what was once called Huntington South. Now it’s the Town of Babylon. According to village lore, the name was changed in 1846 when residents were working to establish its new post office. The meeting turned into bedlam and one participant was to exclaim, “What this meeting needs is some amity”. Another version says the name was first suggested by mill owner Samuel Ireland to name the town for his boat, the Amity. Either way, it stuck!

Amityville was obviously made famous with the 1979 horror film, The Amityville Horror. The house known as 112 Ocean Avenue still exists, but it has been renovated and the address is changed to 108 ocean avenue in order to discourage sightseers from visiting it. The quarter round windows have been removed and the house today looks considerably different from its depiction in the films. So, don’t go there. It doesn’t look like the movie and there is certainly no blood dripping down the walls. Instead, take a day to relax on Amityville beach. Have a fight of beer at Small Craft Brewing Co.. Check out the shops at Amityville Village and stop by Carney’s Irish Pub and Restaurant for Irish inspired delicacies like Guinness mussels and Irish egg rolls. Every year, people flock to Amityville to enjoy everything it has to offer, but unfortunately, so do pests. While these bugs and rodents provide benefits to the eco-system in Amityville, they can also be a serious problem at homes and businesses. That’s when a professional pest control expert should be called in.

Pest Control Services Near You

Properly controlling pests in Amityville, NY should be done on a local level. Amityville’s pest issues are different than Connecticut’s and way different than New Jersey’s. The pest control company you choose should have knowledge and expertise in your town. That’s Western Pest Services. We have been servicing New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, and Pennsylvania for almost 100 years. That kind of expertise is unmatched in the industry. And with a branch located in nearby New York City, our technicians, customer services representatives, and everyone else that works at that location lives and works in the area, too. Our neighbors are your neighbors, and we treat them that way.

As the Empire State, New York is known for the city that never sleeps, but it’s got no shortage of lush vegetation. The towns on Long Island are no exception. Warm, moist summers give way to cold winters, which means over-wintering insects, rodents, and other small wildlife need to find warm places to wait out the cold. The local extermination experts at our NY branch are used to dealing with mice, carpenter ants, bed bugs, termites, mosquitoes, ticks – and even the occasional cheeky raccoon or hiding bat. No matter the season, your pest control service needs will be taken care of by a local exterminator that knows the area and the pests that are common to it. In the summer, they know what that the ponds and birdbaths many people have around their homes can be exactly where mosquitoes like to breed. They know that the ticks that come out during the summer months can transmit Lyme disease so while nobody can help the wooded areas around Pearsall Park, they can help your backyard stay free from them. In the cooler months, they know mice can try to make their way into your garage – especially if that’s where you keep the 20 lb. dog food bag! No matter what pest, any time of the year, our pest control treatments in Amityville can help, including:

  • Bats
  • Bed bugs
  • Ticks
  • Spotted lanternflies
  • Ants
  • Carpenter ants
  • Spiders
  • Beetles
  • Rats
