All About Greenport, NY

Greenport is a village in Suffolk County, on the North Fork of Long Island. The Incorporated Village of Greenport is located entirely within the Town of Southold and is the only incorporated community in the town. Greenport was a major port for its area, having developed a strong fishing and whaling industry in the past, although currently there are only a handful of commercial fishing vessels operating out of the village. More recently the tourism industry has grown substantially too, especially in the summer. Greenport was first settled in 1682. The village was called Winter Harbor, Stirling, and Green Hills and was incorporated in 1838. Greenport was once a whaling and ship building village, and since 1844, has been the eastern terminal station on the north fork for the Long Island Rail Road. During Prohibition, rum running and speakeasies became a significant part of Greenport’s economy. Greenport’s residents knew the waters well and could outrun the coastguard. Restaurants on the east end, including Claudio’s in Greenport, served the illegal booze. Many of the village’s older structures are included in the Greenport Village Historic District, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

Greenport clearly has a rich history, but it’s also a tourist destination. A trip to Greenport wouldn’t be complete without taking a ride on the Antique Carousel. This 100-year-old carousel is nostalgia at its finest. For the adults in the party (after you’ve ridden the carousel – don’t lie, we know you’ll do it), taste some delicious wines at Kontokosta Winery or enjoy a flight of beer at Greenport Harbor Brewing Co.. Also don’t miss the East End Seaport Museum. After a full day like that, treat yourself some truly fresh seafood at the frisky oyster. We suggest starting with the sweet corn soup (it’s got lump crabmeat on top – c’mon!), of course get the oysters on the half shell, and finish with the lobster gigli pasta. You will not be disappointed! Every year, people flock to Greenport to enjoy everything it has to offer, but unfortunately, so do pests. While these bugs and rodents provide benefits to the eco-system in Greenport, they can also be a serious problem at homes and businesses. That’s when a professional pest control expert should be called in.

Pest Control Services Near You

Properly controlling pests in Greenport, NY should be done on a local level. Greenport’s pest issues are different than Connecticut’s and way different than New Jersey’s. The pest control company you choose should have knowledge and expertise in your town. That’s Western Pest Services. We have been servicing New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, and Pennsylvania for almost 100 years. That kind of expertise is unmatched in the industry. And with a branch located in nearby New York City, our technicians, customer services representatives, and everyone else that works at that location lives and works in the area, too. Our neighbors are your neighbors, and we treat them that way.

As the Empire State, New York is known for the city that never sleeps, but it’s got no shortage of lush vegetation. The towns on Long Island are no exception. Warm, moist summers give way to cold winters, which means over-wintering insects, rodents, and other small wildlife need to find warm places to wait out the cold. The local extermination experts at our NY branch are used to dealing with mice, carpenter ants, bed bugs, termites, mosquitoes, ticks – and even the occasional cheeky raccoon or hiding bat. No matter the season, your pest control service needs will be taken care of by a local exterminator that knows the area and the pests that are common to it. In the summer, they know what that the ponds and birdbaths many people have around their homes can be exactly where mosquitoes like to breed. They know that the ticks that come out during the summer months can transmit Lyme disease so while nobody can help the wooded areas around Skate Park, they can help your backyard stay free from them. In the cooler months, they know mice can try to make their way into your garage – especially if that’s where you keep the 20 lb. dog food bag! No matter what pest, any time of the year, our pest control treatments in Greenport can help, including:

  • Bats
  • Bed bugs
  • Ticks
  • Spotted lanternflies
  • Ants
  • Carpenter ants
  • Spiders
  • Beetles
  • Rats
  • Raccoons
